On November 1 Old Mutual Encounters Concerts will be presenting Live under the Sun. This truly African musical celebration, featuring Goldfish, 340ml, City Bowl Mizers, 7th Son, Milkbar Kid and Ricky H, will be held a Emmarentia Dam, at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens.
One of SA’s most exciting and dynamic live electronic acts, Goldfish, are revered worldwide and have shared a stage with impressive electronica giants Fatboy Slim, Mr Scruff, The Audio Bullys, Paul van Dyk, Pete Tong and the Stereo MCs. They have also been voted best live act in South Africa – which makes this an absolute must see musical performance. Combining live instruments such as double bass, saxophones, keyboards, flute, and vocals with samplers, effects, synths and a healthy dollop of freeform improvisation, Goldfish have hit a nerve on dance floors across the world.
Mozambican dub-jazz foursome, 340ml, who have been experimenting with dub baselines, melodicas, echos and other strange sounds from the sub-continent since the nineties, will also woo the crowd with foot-stomping good tunes. Their special melange of Mozambique feel good music and socially relevant lyrics has made them show regulars.
The crowd can also get down to some old favourites like City Bowl Mizers, 7th Son, Ricky H and Milkbar Kid – all armed with positive tunes to empower and entertain.
Pack picnic blankets and cooler boxes, but remember that no alcohol, glass or cans will be allowed into the venue – there is a fully stocked bar on site. . Gates open at noon. Tickets are available from www.tunegum.com for R60 or R100 at the gate. Patrons are urged to buy tickets before the time as if a concert is rained out, the ticket may be used for any of the other Encounters Shows at Emmarentia Dam (for the same monetary value).
